Mission & Vision
Because Dancing, both real and imagined: Entwines the dancers in the rhythms of life...
Inspires the body to new capabilities... Excites the spirit, and makes the soul soar... |
Our 2LDance.org Mission is:
Make More Dancers
Make Better Dancers |
Phase I
Bring Free Dance Lessons to Second Life.
We achieve this mission by:
1, Getting more people dancing in SL. 2. Getting more people dancing in RL. 3. Showing people how to enjoy dancing more in SL and RL 4. Promoting dancing as physical/mental exercise in SL and RL 5. Empowering people to help achieve our mission East Coast Swing Shag West Coast Swing
Salsa Ballroom Country Folk Line Dancing Latin Contra .. Nightclub venues, Restaurant-Club venues, college clubs, dance studios, local groups...
What do ALL kinds of Real Life dances have in common?
FREE CLASSES before the dance! |
Vision:
Dances in Real Life almost always offer "Free Dance Lessons" during the hour before the dance begins. This is true for Swing, Country, Latin, Ballroom, Salsa, Contra... all of them. Those free dance class events are more fun than the dance! You learn enough about a specific dance to enjoy it the rest of the night. More important, after each song in the class, you change partners. You might dance with six or seven strangers during the class... and you'll then end up dancing with them again during open dancing that evening. It is common for advanced dancers to turn out for the class to help newer dancers learn. It is a GREAT way to find a date for the night (at the college dances.)
There's nothing like this kind of social experience dancing in Second Life. But there is going to be... |
Phase II
Learn to dance East Coast Swing in Second Life.
Learn to dance:
|
Learn in it SL.
Dance it in SL. Dance it in RL. |
We will break down each of the steps of the basic East Coast Swing six count pattern, as well as a variety of common beginner's moves.
Through the use of high-repetition, high affinity, vivid motor imagery, we will stimulate mental awareness of the movements of this dance, as well as Real Life physical movements if they are possible. This phase will specifically include wheelchair-enabled dancers and can accommodate any level of RL physical capability. |
Phase III
Dancing for Mobility-Assisted Dancers
Power dancing for:
|
Dance is what your spirit does.
Your body can follow along in many different ways. |
This project will focus on dancing in your chair, and the effects of dancing on dancers with limited physical mobility.
We will explore using visualization to imagine the moves, weight changes, swings, and feel of the dance steps and beat. We'll see how RL mobility-assisted dance moves translate into SL and explore the experience of high-affinity, high-repetition explicit motor imagery. |
Phase IV
Dancing as a Tool for Therapy
High-Repetition High-Affinity Explicit Motor Imagery |
Hypothesis:
High-repetition, high-affinity, explicit dancing motor imagery* can: Teach people the basic steps of dancing Engage persons with cognitive limitations in a positive way Enable wheelchair users the ability to exercise real and ‘phantom’ limbs Over long periods of focused effort, stimulate cortical connectivity. *(imagery of the type that is experienced in the virtual world of Second Life) |
