Costumes - Dance 102 LIVE!Our 2LDance.org Instructors change costumes during the Dance 102 Class - the Live Instructor version of Dance 101. We hope these changes add an additional flavor to the experience of that dance. We have found that students really enjoy changing costumes too! We provide these guidelines so students can enjoy the fun. Please: use the dressing rooms provided; do not change outfits on the classroom floor in front of others.

Costumes are a delightful part of the 2LDance.org LIVE Instructor class experience. You can join in too! |
02 SWING
|
Vintage is unavoidable here. Gals will be flying in medium-length skirts (nickers, please!) and sweater tops. Gents will be sporting big pants and baggy shirts, with suspenders de rigore. You may not be in full 1940's period, but you'll want to get as close as you can. |
"Casual Date" Here is the broadest range of our categories, where the Little Black Dress and basic jeans both work. Every dance has its slow songs, so snuggle up in something comfy. |
1930's and 1940's "WWII-era" uniforms and Zoot suits take you back in time to the Savoy, in Harlem, where Lindy Hop got its start. tight, below the knee skirts, the ubiquitous sweater top and bobby sox oxfords on the girls will match nicely with the baggy suits, baggy dress pants, baggy dress shirts and slick leather-soled shoes on the guys. |
03 NIGHTCLUB
|
"Dressy Date" Sexy skirts or tight pants for the ladies, collared shirt and jacket for the guys. You're dancing to impress, so why not dress to impress too! |
1950's and 60's. West Coast Swing (in a slot) dates back to the earliest days of Swing, but it was in the 1950's, in Arthur Murray dance studios, that WCS skyrocketed in popularity. So we pick "the Fifties" as our period costume for the Nightclub. The double-breasted suit will do nicely. Skirts get puffy for the gals. |
70's and 80's. Everybody slow dances in the decade of disco, so....
05 SALSA
|
Salsa starts with that "salsa skirt" in red or a rainbow of bright colors. Guys can do dress or casual, but the point is to make the lady look amazing. Your hips are where the action is, so make sure your costumes show them off! Smooth and flashy. |
What is more flashy than The Carnival in Rio de Janeiro? Not much, and this is a tradition dating back to 1723! Hard to describe but easy to recognize, if you want to "go period" for the tango, we suggest "Go Rio!" |
06 TANGO
|
The Tango is all about flourish and connection, two bodies moving as one and then independently as if choreographed. Our street tango costumes are rough; barefoot, torn jeans, undershirt, just the very basics. Our club tango outfits will be stark and dressy, black on black, and sexy. |
Competition Costume. The Tango appears in several Competition dances, so our costume for the tango is a (couples) competition outfit. These are "stage" costumes and clearly identify the couple as a competing team. Styles and colors can be almost anything, as long as they look good (and sexy) in motion on the dance floor. |
