Dance 101

Intro to Dancing in Second Life

This 30-minute class introduces basic dance concepts and terms, and provides a concise one-song example of six major dance styles that are popular in dance clubs in Second Life and real life.

Waltz             Slow (English), Viennese  - (3 count)
Swing            East Coast Swing, Jive, Lindy Hop  (4-6-8 Count)
Nightclub      West Coast Swing, Hustle (4-Count Slot step)
Slow             "Foxtrot" Dancing,  Box Step (
4-Count)
Salsa             NYC's synthesis of Cuban Son, Cha-cha, and Mambo
                                 (3-2 and 2-3 clave rhythms 8-count)
   Tango            Argentina/Uruguay Criollo-creole  (free count)

Our 2Ldance.org music stream plays a continuous loop of songs that match these dances, in the sequence shown (starting with the Waltz.)   In Self-Guided mode, you can just start right in on whatever dance is current.    The loop repeats after a few hours, so you can repeat the class several times without hearing repeated songs.
